Operation studies and process modeling - water-works
Öberg, T.
Report to VA-FORSK. T. Öberg Konsult AB, 1994. (In Swedish)

Abstract
The report presents results from a pilot project funded by VA-FORSK applying statistical experimental design and empirical models to improve water treatment processes and drinking water quality. The practical parts of the project has been carried out at Karlskrona water-works.

In this project we have on one hand made about 50 laboratory experiments with varying flocculation conditions, and on the other hand evaluated previously collected measurement and analytical data from about one year of operation. Experimental results and collected measurement and analytical results have been processed with the aid of various statistical techniques. It is shown possible to create "maps" and "mathematical windows" that can give clear description of the process relationships. Optimal operating settings can be selected from the graphically presented results. Diagrams that easily can be interpreted will also increase the understanding of already well-known relationships.

The presented methodology is judged suitable to use for optimization of water treatment processes in both pilot- and full-scale. Calculated models can also be used for process surveillance and continuous quality control.
